Instrument Study- Lute Instruments
From some hand written notes of mine from a while back

barbat (picture above)- Perso-Iranian Lute Group- (ancestor to the Ud), setar, dambur, tanbur (sitar precorsor) and char-tar, looks like an fat persian mandolin

-Jarai people in south central highlands of Vietnam
-has a silk connected bamboo disk connected to it which is held in the mouth makes the mouth a resonating chamber.

-Afghan national instrument
-3 main strings and an number of sympathetics with a deep goat skin resinator
-also appears in India and Northern Pakistan.
-it was precourser tto the Indian sarod
-played with picks or strike bows
-plucked playing method most common in central asia
