Mixerless Mic Pre Brainstorm

I want to have an idea to build a mic->outboard pre->recording medium portable recording rig that I am interested in building. This will be my space to work out the brainstorm. I am trying to figure out a simple signal path and try and take out the mixer to put less devices between the instrument and the computer's HDD.

Toft- Joe Meek- other randommly priced decent pre's- under $300, $500, $1000
-Brainstorm a mic pre based- no mixer- recording set up- make a list of cools ones- with prices ect- 16 Channels

Main Problem- Headphone/Aux mixes and getting different mixes to different people, may could use a cheap mixer with splits from pres . . .

The original brainstorm started as:
828-Mixer-Laptop-HeadPhone amp-
Then have it as a good 2 channel recoring station- 2 good pre's split out into 2 mirrored recording devices
the rack mount HDD/SD/CF recording jams look cool, find a cheaper one as a back up-or a field recording version
for now use 2 laptops. Or a cheaper CD recorder- I am sure a cheap one of this is possible-
Serves two purposes- Location 2 track recording with minimal signal path- Pre-s>plit->audio_interface
and an MC on location recording thing- headphone amps-good signal path, compressor-
and then an 8 track recording moduale with 2 dank pre's- spend the money and get it in one box
power distro, rack, foucusrite, Soundcraft mixer, toft pre's with compressor, or two UA 610's,
