Hot damn, I am in Sevilla

To be honest, I was shocked when the Spanish Embassy gave this good ol' mountain boy from the South a Visa to go to Spain for a whole year. After a long flight and over the pond and 30 hours in airports (cheap tickets, plus delays due to JFK, did get to chill in Dublin for a second though) I arrived in one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to, Sevilla Spain. With about a million people here, I am sure I can find some sort of trouble to get into. My wife got here a few days
before I did, so she had lots of the dirty work done before I got into town. We moved in to our new piso (aka flat, aka apartment) today and, since I still have jet lag, I figured I would write my first entry into my take on this living in Spain ordeal.

I think all is going to be well here, the people drink beer all day long (it is hot, so you need to keep cool and kill the pain) and take a siesta from 2-5. Yes, I get a nap everyday, just like kindergarten. Eat your heart out. A few things I have yet to get used to though are the meals, they eat lunch at 2ish and then they don't eat dinner until at least 10pm, but usually closer to midnight. Lunch is the big meal (you do get a nap afterwards) and dinner usually consists of a small portion dish called a tapa. So I have been getting really hungry right before I go to bed, but with how damn good the food is here, I can not really complain. I have eaten bull tail already, and it was almost as good as some Eastern NC BBQ (do notice I said almost). Every meal I have had thus far (and I have been here for 5 days now) has been better than the next. The cheeses, bread, wine and beer here trump anything I have had in the States, and it is soooo cheap. 5 of us went out for dinner the other night, each got a tapa and a drink and the bill was under 20 Euros (some where between 25 and 30 American bucks). Beers are like a Euro each, I think that I may be in heaven.

By the way, the dollar sucks, so all of my hard work and savings have been diluted by 25%. It is a small price to pay for living in such a cool place. One up note though, Euros look so much prettier than dollars.

I can by Cuban Cigars here!!! I have noticed that almost everyone smokes here. It is amazing that a country with free health care would have this many smokers, but, who I am I to judge. Plus, I get Cubans, a nap, and 1 Euro beers!!

More to come, and very soon.
